Chinwe searches for serenity on ‘Come We Fly’

Following the release of her transformative single “Paranoia”, East London’s Chinwe grapples with the demise of a romantic relationship on “Come We Fly” – the latest addition from her upcoming EP project. The track feels soft and sweet as Chinwe’s honeyed vocals gently lap at the surface, and yet there is darkness within. Searching for serenity, love’s once warming glow has grown cold and their shared life must be delicately disentangled.

“‘Come We Fly’ Is about ignoring warning signs and holding onto a relationship despite knowing it’s not good for you”, Chinwe offers. “You keep clinging onto the idea that if you could just go someplace else, somewhere new or literally fly away, everything could be fixed – but it never really works out like that.”

Inspired by genre crossing musicians and rich, jazz-filled compositions, Chinwe’s song-writing is wrapped in introspection and self-reflection. Using music to make sense of the world around her, pleasure and pain are at the forefront – unafraid to lay her emotions bare. Despite “Come We Fly”’s amorous dissolution, there is still tenderness at its heart as Chinwe learns to let go and prioritise her own needs and desires.

The daughter of a Nigerian father and a Jamaican Mother, Chinwe was exposed to an eclectic range of music from an early age. Having played classical violin as a child, the self-taught musician started writing songs as a teenager and began experimenting with production as another outlet for her creativity.

With significant praise from Complex, Wonderland, Record of the Day, Fred Perry Subculture, BBC 1XTRA (Jamz Supernova) and BBC Introducing (Tom Robinson), Chinwe sets her sights on a brighter future. “
