Clara Colette Miramon Unveils “Care” at the Volksbühne: A Fashion Reflection on Vulnerability and Strength
The outdoor setting in front of the iconic Volksbühne, a landmark known for its radical art and social discourse, sets the perfect backdrop for this innovative show. Crafted with the meticulous prowess of PLATTE.Berlin, production for the event, stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in creative expression.
At the heart of Miramon’s presentation lies a choreographed movement that reimagines public space. A draped white catwalk leads spectators through the heart of the street, framed by a striking installation featuring hospital beds and Pilates reformers that juxtapose the structured with the vulnerable. This artistic setup transforms the street into a living runway, a vibrant platform for a celebration of femininity that resonates through both the mind and the body.
Taking inspiration from the emblematic figure of the 1960s nurse, Miramon’s collection revisits classic silhouettes, reworking them to reflect the emotional labour and quiet strength that often go unnoticed. Each piece serves as a reminder of the resilience embedded in caregiving roles, traditionally feminised yet foundational to our social structure.
As the collection unfolds, a recurring motif emerges: the spine. Corset-like lacing traced across garments suggests both fragility and strength. Drawing from medical braces and orthopaedic designs, Miramon transforms these utilitarian elements into sculptural pieces that speak volumes about the interplay between vulnerability and empowerment.
Overflowing fabrics gather and ruche, echoing a femininity that defies confinement and celebrates liberation, adding a palpable emotional charge to the collection’s structured silhouettes. The performance itself is divided into two acts: a tribute to caretakers, followed by a dynamic homage to Pilates that embodies empowerment through movement. Leggings and fitted tops are reimagined through thoughtful cuts, striking a balance between athletic discipline and sensuality.
The finale is a breathtaking sculptural wedding dress designed with a scoliosis brace as its corset, epitomising the duality of strength and delicacy, intimacy and visibility. Miramon’s collection is not just a visual feast but an insightful meditation on the emotional architecture of the body and the vital importance of care in our interconnected lives.
In “Care,” Clara Colette Miramon challenges the fashion landscape to acknowledge and celebrate the often-overlooked roles that sustain us. It’s a powerful statement on the delicate scaffolding of support that keeps our society buoyant, an evocative reminder that care, in all its forms, should never be taken for granted.
Sponsored by the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises (SenWEB), and supported by Vinted and PLATTE.Berlin, this remarkable collection amplifies the voices of care through a lens of avant-garde fashion, merging artistry with a profound social commentary.
