Styling and nails by Alessia Esposito. “CLEAN KITSCH” is a photographic editorial that expands upon the tension between kitsch aesthetics and the traditional domestic environment, using this contrast as a lens through which to explore the representation of women within familiar household settings. The project intentionally embraces the language of kitsch, its excess, its exaggeration, and its deliberate theatricality to reveal how these visual strategies can be reinterpreted as critical tools rather than mere decorative choices.
In this editorial, the home becomes an expressive stage where exaggerated gestures, stylized poses, and hyper-saturated objects interact to question the norms typically associated with femininity and domestic labor. Kitsch is not treated simply as an aesthetic quotation, but as an active means of reclaiming and reframing stereotypes. Through its playful yet conscious visual vocabulary, the editorial overturns the conventions that once confined women to rigid domestic archetypes, transforming them into protagonists of a self-aware spectacle.
By amplifying familiar tropes and exaggerating domestic symbols, “CLEAN KITSCH” invites the viewer to reconsider how cultural expectations shape the perception of women in domestic spaces. The editorial turns the classic figure of the housewife into a deliberate performance, part parody, part provocation, using exaggeration as a way to expose and destabilise the roles traditionally assigned to women. What emerges is a visual narrative that merges irony and intention, transforming everyday household settings into arenas where identity, representation, and cultural clichés are renegotiated.
