Denial has rarely sounded this seductive. Splitting his life between Copenhagen and Berlin, Danish singer-songwriter and producer Lasse Matthiessen returns with “I’m Not In Love”, a sleek, magnetic slice of indie-pop that acts as the opening salvo for his upcoming 2027 full-length album.
Building upon the nocturnal synth world of his 2022 album Dreams Don’t Make Noise, the new single finds Matthiessen operating at the sweet spot where confessional songwriting meets contemporary electronic grit. Rooted in classical choral training, a jazz lineage, and an adolescence spent in Copenhagen’s Nørrebro, his rich, baritone delivery anchors the track with effortless weight.

Rather than tracing a standard narrative arc, “I’m Not In Love” zooms in on a cinematic, smoke-veiled instant: flickering lights, cool chrome, and bodies gravitating together on a crowded dance floor. At its core sits a comically stubborn phrase repeated like armor: I’m not in love. Yet, as the synths warm up and the bass pulses closer, the denial crumbles. Standing inches apart, matching breath and pulse, the performance turns into a masterclass in fragile self-delusion.
“I love that tension: where the words claim one thing while the imagery tells an entirely different story,” notes Matthiessen. “He keeps saying ‘I’m Not In Love,’ while every detail in the room contradicts it. Perhaps that quiet self-deception is the true emotional pulse of the track—and where its subtle humor lives.”
Effortlessly balancing melancholy with playful swagger, “I’m Not In Love” proves that Matthiessen knows exactly how to make vulnerability dance.
