Elodie Carstensen’s multidisciplinary art project “Des Nachtmahrs Schmetterlinge” creates an interactive and immersive experience by blending performance, music, and installation art. Inspired by Berlin’s Grunewald, the shooting location of Carstensen’s short film, Chaussee36 has been transformed into a surreal landscape.
The exhibition featured 13 fabric trees, surrounded by mirrored surfaces and bathed in green lights, setting the stage for an otherworldly atmosphere.
Under the direction of Marie Zechiel, 13 dancers take the stage, drawing inspiration from the mystical state of butterflies emerging from their cocoons. Their movements, accompanied by haunting sounds by Chris Voolstra, captivate and mesmerize the audience.

“Des Nachtmahrs Schmetterlinge” takes guests on a transformational journey, starting with moments of isolation and culminating in a powerful fusion. The walkable sound and spatial installation serve as a breathtaking backdrop as the performers undergo their own metamorphosis, inviting the audience to intimately witness their transformative experiences.
The event also showcases a fashion film featuring specially designed outfits. These garments act as characters on a collective journey, and guests have the opportunity to explore their own abilities and unique qualities through an exhibition of the outfits presented as tarot cards.
“Des Nachtmahrs Schmetterlinge” offers a one-of-a-kind exploration of isolation, transformation, and fusion, seamlessly merging performance, music, and installation art. Carstensen’s artistic vision shines brightly in this remarkable event, leaving the audience eagerly anticipating her future endeavours.
