Styled by Shaheerah A. “The concept of the project revolves around the theme of a human scaled figurine, inspired by styles of military uniforms and dolls outfit. The styles are complimented by the design of Sang-A Kim’s collection inspired by the stereotypes that exist today, one that defines us by our looks and labels of what we wear. I was always intrigued by the creating a narrative that revolves around the idea that society controls most of out actions and lives, thus the portrayal of uniforms is highlighted as part of the style of the concept.” – Introducing: Sang-A Kim. A London based designer, who was born in Korea but raised in London from the age of 4. A fresh graduate with a BA in Womenswear from London College of Fashion. In her graduate collection, she has explored the concept of detachable garments, where various pieces could be changed around to make a new look. The collection ‘detachable’ is inspired by paper dolls and military details and fossil fabrications. The ‘detachable’ symbolises the stereotypes that we have with society today. We are constantly in war with each other, with a gender, race or a religion. People are separated from one another just by a label. Detachable could mean to separate or disconnect, through researching the paper dolls theme, the garments are designed so that some parts of the garments can be attached and put on and off the garment and so it could be made into a new look.
