Edinburgh by Elena Roka

Elena Roka is a Manchester and Athens based visual artist and performer, currently studying Architecture at the University of Manchester. Her inspiration derives from all kinds of Art– architecture, literature and poetry, photography, painting, and the appreciation of the Old and its beauty in decay.

“I have always considered Architecture more than the creation of built space; buildings often voice their history, speak their own secret language. What I feel obliged to do is to listen to this spatial poetry and then try to portray its meaning through the lens and the grainy nature of the film. And in the city of Edinburgh, these meanings echo within me quite loudly– they have shaped my idiosyncrasy, both as an artist and human. [It is] a city so beautiful it breaks the heart again and again; and I am yet to explore how to visualise this feeling.”
