Educate Your Ears: Nisse

Nisse grew up in South Hamburg, in between the industry of the Phoenix-Viertel and the outside. With his eclectic music taste ranging from Hip Hop to Queen, it’s no wonder that Nisse’s sound is nothing but fresh. Every song becomes a journey: Pop that can do more than it seemed to for a long time. KALTBLUT spoke to Nisse about his influences, working on his first album and what we can expect from this this year!

KALTBLUT: Introduce yourself – who are you and where are you from?
Nisse: My name is Nisse and I grew up in the south of Hamburg. I am a lyricist, musician and producer.

KALTBLUT: Do you have a strong musical background? Is it something that you studied?
Nisse: My musical background were the hits of the 80s from the radio and the big vinyl collection of my father. I think he had up to 50.000 LPs when I was a kid. My sister was the first one to show me nearly everything that happened in the RnB and Soul universe and my neighbour at that time showed my the underground hip hop stuff, from Britcore to the pioneers of German rap. So I heard a lot of different music by the time I was 13 but my biggest influence to this day is Michael Jackson. I had the luck to see him live twice! It was unreal and perfect.

KALTBLUT: Did you travel much when you were younger?
Nisse: I think the same like every regular child. 1 or 2 times a year but always in Europe. I never saw another continent so far.

KALTBLUT: Did you find the cultural differences made an impact on you?
Nisse: Of course. I lived one year in England, that shook my whole world up. The school system and the humor  had a big impact on my thinking when I came back to Germany.
KALTBLUT: What made you decide to release your videos so closely together?
Nisse: I like to do new stuff and things that challenge me. And I want to give the people as much as possible on the viral side because my music is more than the same 2 songs done in different ways all the time. You have to see a lot of my colours to get the whole picture. That’s why I made a video for every song of the album and you can hear every week the song of the current clip for free on Spotify and get it at iTunes.

KALTBLUT: What can we expect from your album?
Nisse: A fresh and unconventional way to make German pop music. Deep lyrics and epic sound-arrangements but at the same time fun, humor and irony on lighthearted grooves.

KALTBLUT: When will your full album be released?
Nisse: On the 4th of September 2015. Check “NisseMusik” on Facebook for the videos and more stuff coming with the LP!

KALTBLUT: What do you think of love?
Nisse: It’s the core of everything. I think we always start from love and than on the second thought there comes grief, hate and all that bs.

KALTBLUT: Are you touring this year?
Nisse: Yes, from the 26th of September to the 5th of October in Germany. From Hamburg Reeperbahn to the south and back to Berlin Berghain Kantine.

KALTBLUT: What is next for you?
Nisse: A lot of live gigs and the production for new music.

‘AUGUST’
will be released by Four Music 4th of September 2015.
