Few bands capture chaos and clarity quite like Chicago’s Fank! With Byron Siragusa, Luca Federighi, Wyatt Tiberia, and Owen Santiago at its core, the four-piece channels its energy into a sound that feels both otherworldly and deeply human. By blending psychedelia, progressive rock, and raw youthful emotion, they create unpredictable tracks that keep listeners on edge. You never quite know where they’ll take you next, and that’s exactly the thrill. They may be young, but they’ve already got plenty to say.
Fank! has already made their mark on major stages such as Lollapalooza, Summerfest, and The Cubby Bear. Frontman Siragusa recently took home the Nord Anglia International Young Musician Award, a sign of the band’s growing recognition. Each member brings a distinct flavour to the mix. Byron’s songwriting channels the wide-open dreaminess of Kevin Parker, fused with the heartfelt depth of Jeff Buckley.
Their latest single, “angstrafankin’,” opens like an alien signal hijacking your radio before morphing into a fierce, pulsing rhythm. The riffs pulse with a hint of Metallica, while the vocals bring a playful, Foo Fighters-like energy. Midway through, an explosive guitar solo takes the spotlight before melting seamlessly back into the melody. The result is gloriously messy, chaotic, youthful, and unapologetically alive.
“‘angstrafankin’’ is our first collaboration and contains that restless energy we all feel at times, of wanting to break free when things are closing in. We want our music to be the soundtrack to people’s lives, whether it’s for a party, a pensive moment, or a quiet train ride home. And angstrafankin’ is just the beginning,” says Byron.
At nearly six minutes long, the track is a rare gem in today’s short-form world, a refreshing change of pace. It ends just as it began, with a retreat as radio static fades and the signal drifts back into space. Transmission complete, earthlings.
