Magazine lovers, there’s a fresh player in town, and it’s called XIER. As fashion fans and connoisseurs, we are absolutely enthralled by this avant-garde publication that merges the tactile thrill of print with the vibrancy of contemporary creativity. With its striking layout and innovative design, XIER encapsulates a new wave of fashion journalism that is both visually arresting and intellectually stimulating.
In an age where digital reigns supreme, one might question the relevance of a printed magazine. But let us not be hasty! Modernity is not simply about being digital; it’s an expression of attitude that embodies the spirit of our times. Freshness and innovation can be elusive, yet XIER brings them to life by showcasing a harmonious blend of young, emerging talents and seasoned creatives. This magazine is a platform for those who aspire to beautify our world and appreciate the artistry of fashion designers and artists alike.
XIER is not merely a magazine to be skimmed through in seconds; it is a collectable artefact, a printed medium with the potential to transcend time. Imagine stumbling upon a copy in a flea market five decades from now, a tangible reminder of today’s fashion scene and the visionary pursuits of daring designers. To put it simply, it’s an inspiring work of art that you can hold, savour, and cherish.
About XIER – The Content
In its inaugural issue, XIER presents 16 promising fashion designers from various German fashion schools, curated for ‘Berlin Curated’ by the illustrious Christiane Arp, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue, along with Sonja Hodzode and Josepha Rodríguez. These talented individuals not only have their designs featured in the magazine but were also showcased on the ‘Berlin Curated Runway Show’ during Berlin Fashion Week on July 2, 2025.
But that’s just the beginning. XIER shines a spotlight on an array of emerging and established designers, photographers, and artists, highlighting collaborations that push the boundaries of creativity. In this magazine, models are not just vessels of beauty; they embody the spirit of the clothes, adding depth and narrative to the editorial experience.
The term ‘xier’—a gender-neutral pronoun coined by Illi Anna Heger in 2009—serves as an innovative step toward linguistic inclusion. By seeking a German equivalent to the English ‘they,’ the creation of ‘xier’ allows non-binary individuals to express their identity. Though not yet commonplace, it stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of language, reflecting respect, visibility, and a commitment to diversity.
XIER – The Creators
XIER is co-published and initiated by Anke Schlöder, Professor of Fashion Design at HTW Berlin, who also serves as the fashion editor. The magazine’s editorial content and design are crafted by Printkultur, while renowned fashion photographer Joachim Baldauf takes the helm as Creative Director. Together, this talent pool is redefining what we expect from fashion media, fostering an inclusive narrative that celebrates identity and creativity.
Get ready, because XIER Magazine is set to transform the fashion landscape and make waves in the editorial world!
