Fashion of Tomorrow in the Museum – the graduation show of the Lette Verein at the Kulturforum

A costume exhibition, a fashion show, and the following rave – the final show of the graduates of the Lette Verein once again took place at the Kulturforum. This year with a new concept and in an energetic atmosphere under the open sky. All photos by Simon Eichmann. Read the German version below, and find all designers at the end of the article.

It was the first final show since the beginning of the pandemic that the graduates of the Lette Verein presented at the Kulturform last weekend. The “comeback” was not the only reason to celebrate. An expansion in the educational concept of the renowned Berlin fashion school was a further reason: in addition to the runway show of the fashion design branch, the first graduating class of the costume design department showed its final concepts in an exhibition.

Storytelling through costume design: the exhibition of the first graduating class in costume design

Through multimedia installations, the multi-faceted concepts of the graduates invited the visitors to linger and reflect on a narrative that was individually curated in each case. Film, photography, text, contextualizing objects, and, last but not least, the impressive costumes themselves came together to form individual concepts that filled the space with artistic expressiveness. The DIY character of the exhibition in particular provided an authentic and intimate insight into the creative process of the graduates.

Thoughtful diversity in every direction: the final show of the graduating class in fashion design

Opulent full-body suits, wafer-thin, transparent dresses, elaborate knitted elements, architectural drapes, psychedelic patterns, futuristic shapes… The collections of the graduates could hardly have been more diverse. The individual approach of each of the three-part ensembles characterized the final show. Glimpses of past decades came together in self-confident reinterpretations and innovative designs combined upcycling and functional elements. The skillfully composed variety of the designers enlivened the forecourt of the Kulturforum, which was expressed not least in the enthusiastic mood of the spectators – the graduates of the Lette Verein know how to transport emotions through their outfits.

Opulente Ganzkörper-Suits, hauchzarte, transparente Kleider, aufwendige Strickelemente, architektonische Drapage, psychodelische Muster, futuristische Formen…
