Fear and discrimination towards femininity are taking place in all social settings, both in heterosexual and queer fields. It’s not accepted because valued as less, weaker, softer. As we live in a world that devalues women and shows hatred towards the feminine oftentimes even more so if associated with a male body. This artistic project wants to investigate the representation of what we still generally call feminine and masculine, and provoke a reaction to start a different conversation.

I want to evoke memories of one’s femininity by taking the spectator on a poetic journey through gender identification and self-discovery.

I grew up through my childhood and teenage years traumatised by being called a “girl” by strangers everywhere all the time as if it would be something nasty, something bad to be. My parents tried everything in their power to erase and burry it. And it took me decades of deconstruction, evolution and tons of inner work to fully accept the beautiful and strong feminine that lives within me and to make it even flourish. Today I’m freaking proud to hold in me all of that feminine power, and without having to give up the masculine parts. Because I can be it all, like there is no light without shadow.” *Fabio D’Onofrio
