Güner Künier: The Berlin-based German-Turkish Artist Released New Single “Akşam Vakti”

Berlin’s own Güner Künier dropped her highly anticipated new single “Akşam Vakti,” accompanied by an evocative music video. This track marks the third teaser leading up to her upcoming album “Yaramaz,” set for release on March 21st.

Translating to “Evening Time,” “Akşam Vakti” encapsulates that fleeting moment when darkness begins to envelop the day. Musically, it marries hypnotic post-punk energy with a nostalgic synth-wave vibe and distorted synth-pop elements. Güner’s vocals traverse a landscape from cool restraint to an explosive, rebellious climax. The song’s standout feature is its repetitive counting sequence (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), which cleverly nods to the Turkish proverb of the “five siblings.” Beneath the abstract lyrics lies a profound message: the strength to break free from constraining patterns and rediscover one’s self-worth.

Born in 1990 in Izmir, Turkey, Güner Künier moved with her family to Flensburg at the age of three. Growing up, she honed her craft in local bands before pursuing a degree in industrial engineering, first in Heide/Holstein and later relocating to Berlin in 2014. After completing her studies, she fully committed to her artistic passion, exploring roles as an actress and musician. The early 2020s saw her step into the solo spotlight, with her debut EP “Flexel” released in 2021, followed by her first album “Aşk” just a year later. Güner has since toured extensively across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, with performances in the Netherlands and England. Looking ahead, she’s set to hit the stage at major events such as the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen and the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg in 2024.
