Homemade Divinity by Andrea Galad

Berlin-based photographer Andrea Galad just made a new series inspired by this forced isolation: Homemade Divinity. Galad’s work is strongly inspired by  mythology and holy iconography.

Homemade Divinity
This blessed moment where we are forced to spend time with ourselves finally came. For some, this “dive” into a solitary life, with technology just as another window on the outside world, won’t be such a challenge. Being already used to get along with themselves, they will find this break a meditative blessing; but for some others, this period will be a challenge.

There are people out there who shape their own selves through the others. Fragile, insecure people with a paper-thin ego that validate and build their personality through people interactions: those people that when left alone can simply not stay.

Nothing bad in being vulnerable or codependent, don’t get me wrong, nobody wants to be alone; we all crave for love and we all deserved to be loved. But this is not the time. We have to exploit this domestic partnership into the best relationship of our life, the one with ourselves.

This is the right moment to find and build the best version of yourself. Dealing with your light won’t be difficult. Many of you will find inner creativity that will turn you into little homemade gods and goddesses. Dealing with our Shadows will be scary but necessary. We all have a natural dark side, and we all have our demons to deal with.

Though if we start being aware of our darkness, if we learn how to embrace and tame our demons, if we allow ourselves to be vulnerable without feeling wrong, if we are able to admit that we all are needy beings and simple humans, then we are on the right path to being the only owner of ourselves.

Use this time to think about what you want and what you don’t want anymore in your life, and since you cannot control other people’s reactions and actions, you have to be smart and start to work on yourselves, change. Recognize first and get rid of the most toxic part of yourself and let grow only those bright sides of you that makes you happy.

It is ok to be scared or hold on to grief as long as we make space for something positive. Complete yourself through awareness, because life is not beautiful, but beautiful are those individuals who react to the absurdity of life creatively.
