La casa de Bernada Alba

A KALTBLUT exclusive editorial taken from our new digital issue. This editorial reinterprets and updates the story of “La Casa de Bernarda Alba”, by Federico García Lorca. It is a metaphor for the social situation in which we live these days. The death of the father is, symbolically, an ending of universal values such as tolerance, respect, equality, and freedom of expression/speech.

In the original play, Lorca makes a realistic portrait of society. In contrast, here it is opted for a utopian projection of it, replacing envy and rivalry with sisterhood among sisters. In this context, Adela also dies, due to women keep dying. However, her death is not in vain, serving as an engine for those who come after her.
