With this project, Michele Mancano sets aside conventional beauty standards and shifts the focus to something deeper. The images speak of strength and transformation, without the need for further explanation. Black and white strips away the superfluous: what remains are the eyes, the hands, the marks. The gun is not a weapon against others, but against a part of oneself that no longer feels familiar.
Michele Mancano was born in Corato, in the southern Italian region of Puglia. He approached photography out of curiosity and quickly discovered that portraiture was his natural form of expression. After training as a self-taught photographer, he moved to Milan, where he graduated from the Istituto Italiano di Fotografia, with a focus on advertising and fashion photography. Over the years, he has collaborated with magazines, brands, and agencies, including during Milan Fashion Week. He currently works with actresses and both national and international brands, moving between editorial and commercial projects. His photography is mostly in black and white. The images are seemingly simple, at times imperfect: the focus is always on the intensity of the gaze. In his portraits, something often emerges that the subject has never seen in themselves before: a vulnerability, a strength, an emotion that takes shape in the moment of the shot. His work is born from a constant balance between profession and passion.
