Lines of Expression: Masha Reva’s Artistry in Kyiv

In a poignant reflection on her artistic journey, Ukrainian artist and creative director Masha Reva delves into the realms of her multidisciplinary practice with the 16mm short film, Along the Lines. Filmed by director Pavel Buryak amidst the vibrant streets of Kyiv, Reva constructs a unique vernacular that intertwines the personal and the playful, subverting conventional notions of beauty and utility while probing the depths of the human experience. Since establishing her studio at the onset of the war, Reva has made it her mission to spotlight Ukraine and its creative community, transforming her keen observations of the world into vivid artistic expressions.

“What if an artwork sketch didn’t stop at the edge of a canvas? We wanted to show how one small, creative twist can turn any spot into an art space. A big part of this was showing Masha’s colour-mixing process, her way of seeing the world – vibrant, real, and full of personality.”

Blending her expressive linework into large-scale textiles, Reva ventures into the realm of carpet design in collaboration with Ukrainian design platform Diza Collective. By continuously adapting her work to various surfaces—from apparel and curated sets to the human form—Reva expands her artistic practice, reimagining the possibilities of art beyond traditional confines.
