Ljublana Fashion Week 24: A Backtage Story

Ljubljana Fashion Week (LJFW) has grown into a pivotal event that not only celebrates Slovenian fashion but also fosters a deeper conversation around sustainability, creativity, and cultural impact. The milestone 10th anniversary and 15th edition, held from October 7-11, 2024, at the Rog Center, saw 46 collections that reflect the city’s evolving identity as a hub for sustainable fashion.

Through a blend of avant-garde designs, environmental consciousness, and social commentary, LJFW emphasized the importance of responsible fashion in modern culture.

Among the standout collections:

Made in Anselma’s “Démodé” was a head-turner, transforming old curtains into bold, impractical pieces that served as social commentary on excess and waste. It was less about wearable fashion and more about poking fun at modern life’s contradictions and the ongoing debate around sustainability.

SARIVALENCI’s “Heathers” collection brought fun and rebellious energy to the runway. Inspired by the cult classic film Heathers, it featured whimsical designs like lace napkins and barefoot vibes, capturing the spirit of carefree youth and freedom.

Nika Ravnik wowed with her upcycled Fragments collection, using fabric scraps to create architectural, avant-garde pieces. With a focus on zero-waste and sustainability, her collection was a perfect blend of art, design, and eco-conscious fashion.

Petja Zorec brought a cosmopolitan flair with her gender-fluid collection, inspired by a globetrotting character named Tamara. Bold colours, mixed patterns, and historical influences created a fluid, timeless collection celebrating individuality and the freedom to express oneself across eras.

This edition of LJFW cemented the event’s role as a key player in pushing the boundaries of fashion while engaging with broader societal and environmental discussions, making Slovenian fashion a growing force on the global stage.
