I really admire MALONDA and her work. She is an inspiration, her sound is strong and beautiful. It is my pleasure to introduce you to MALONDA’s debut album: Mein Herz ist ein dunkler Kontinent. Out 10.03.2023 via Springstoff.
When MALONDA is introduced to an audience, the list could run for minutes – singer, songwriter, activist, presenter, diva, columnist, musical actress – but maybe it helps to think of her as a real rarity: MALONDA likes to talk on the phone.
Those who are extraordinarily lucky to be friends with Achan can get called five or six times in the course of a good day. She is always concerned with the important issues of the time, such as embarrassing daily politics, critical analysis of the Tony Awards or hotness rankings of South Korean series stars.

But above all, she wants to discuss the three big questions: Why isn’t this clown getting in touch? Why is this clown contacting me now and writing such rubbish? Why is everyone in this country so terrible? MALONDA’s debut album “My Heart is a Dark Continent” revolves around some of these questions. It is autobiographical, without retelling Achan’s biography – a girl from Essen-Borbeck, a mother from the Congo, father from Sudan, after stations in Stuttgart and Hamburg in Berlin for a few years and of course always looking for an apartment – or even based on their identities like Schwarz, queer and Ruhrpott.
Instead, the album, musically as varied as MALONDA’s wardrobe thanks to the production of Riffsn (Großstadtgeflüster) and Mona M, is a collection of 14 calls: from Wikipedia wormhole to angry speech about Germany, from PMS complaints to longing for revolution, from real nonsense to the emotional therapy session, which first has to be processed. With so much eloquence, it’s fitting that the album’s first song is dedicated to a heroine to whom we owe the technology on which cell phone reception and Bluetooth are based.
In “Hedy Lamarr” MALONDA tells the life of the iconic actress, who drove from Vienna to Hollywood in the thirties and who, as a Jewish anti-fascist, developed torpedo technology for the US Navy, as an elegant electro chanson with an ecstatic finish.
