In the shimmering tapestry of fashion, a fresh collection emerges, draped in the hues of history and identity. Marisa Fuentes Prado’s “Intermedio Tardío” strikes a profound chord, reverberating through the corridors of time while forging a new vocabulary of style.
Rooted in the transformative epoch of Peru, where once-great empires faded, leaving behind a canvas ripe for unbounded creativity, this collection embodies the essence of a liminal space—an intersection where echoes of the past echo against the burgeoning whispers of the future.
Fuentes Prado’s journey weaves a rich narrative that traverses continents. Born in Peru, educated in Scandinavia, and flourishing in Berlin, she masterfully juxtaposes two worlds, exploring her multifaceted identity through the clashing of cultural paradigms. This collection is not a mere homage to the colonial narrative but a bold conversation with a Northern European culture that remains largely uncharted in her history.

In a landscape where Peruvian exuberance—intricate textiles and ornate embellishments—faces the minimalist ethos of Northern Europe, the collection savours complexity against simplicity. Vivid bursts of colour stand resolutely against the stoic elegance of Northern restraint, while artisanal craftsmanship counters the principles of structural precision.
“Intermedio Tardío” is a daring exploration, festooned with geometric prints, sharp silhouettes, and striking designs that redefine familiar forms—think dresses and tailored suits crafted from organic cotton and recycled polyester. Highlighted by minimalistic accessories such as printed scarves and silver jewellery, every piece radiates a narrative of its own, enriched by the innovative use of cacao and corn-derived biomaterials.
Born out of a passion for sustainable elegance, Fuentes Prado established Maqu in 2017 in response to the urgent call for eco-conscious craftsmanship. With a meticulous hand, each garment is produced in collaboration with trusted artisans in Germany and Peru, marrying a timeless aesthetic with cutting-edge sustainable practices.
As “Intermedio Tardío” unfurls its fabric of history, it invites us not just to witness a revival but to engage in a renaissance of perspective, where the past aids the formation of the present and the future unfurls with promise.
