“The use of jewellery, especially earrings, among historical pirates is a fact supported by various sources. These ornaments served multiple purposes, from symbolising achievements and experiences to acting as protective amulets or even economic resources in difficult situations. However, the image of pirates overloaded with jewellery is more a myth fueled by popular culture than a historical reality. In this editorial, we draw inspiration from both the uniforms worn by sailors throughout history and the materials and surroundings that have shaped them, such as chains, fishing nets, and knots. It is an ode to the sea.”

“I’m Sara González, a Barcelona-based photographer. Although I’ve been working professionally for less than two years, photography has been a part of my life since I was 13. I pursued higher studies in film direction and completed a specialisation in fashion and advertising photography with top marks. My experience spans e-commerce, advertising, product, fashion, editorial, events, and corporate photography.

Marea: Beyond the Blue was born from a trip I took to the Balearic Islands earlier this year to participate in a Mediterranean sea-themed contest. I was fascinated by the sea, sailors, and pirate aesthetics, and I wanted to explore that world through fashion photography. My work is deeply inspired by cinema, visual arts, and the places I visit, as well as photographers like Txema Yeste.

I love experimenting with light, composition, and mood to create images that feel cinematic and alive. Photography is how I interpret the world around me, and I aim to keep exploring new ways to tell stories, connect with emotions, and push my creative vision further every day.”
