“When I first envisioned this shoot, I only knew I wanted AI- AI-generated backgrounds, but I didn’t yet understand why. I had a vision of the final images, but not the meaning behind them. Then, through the back and forth with Vanessa, who did the AI edits, I kept looking at the results.
Without thinking, just letting the images sink in, it came to me.
I’m not sure if it came from reflecting on current events around the world, or the fact that the model in this project is my long-distance boyfriend, or perhaps both, but the idea became clear. I wanted to portray a thought about borders and the restrictions they impose on movement.
I often think about how unfair it feels that I cannot see my boyfriend whenever I want, simply because of borders and visa restrictions tied to our passports. I think about all the people who have no choice but to flee their countries and yet face impossible barriers.
At the same time, I wanted to keep the shoot modern and fashionable, more like an editorial than a reportage. That’s why I chose to include brands in the styling and create a strong fashion narrative alongside the concept.
With this collaboration between a real human and AI-generated environments, I’m creating a scenario that doesn’t yet exist, a world in which humans can be anywhere they choose, without visas or borders.”
