The Knife’s avant-garde maestro, Olof Dreijer, has released a captivating music video for his latest single, “Echoed Dafnino (feat. MaMan),” a standout track from his debut solo album, Loud Bloom, out now on DH2. This LP marks a colourful and rhythmic journey that pushes the boundaries of modern club music, establishing Dreijer as a force to be reckoned with in today’s sonic landscape.
Set to headline DH2’s upcoming showcase at Public Records in New York City, Dreijer is revitalising dance floors with his 2023 output that strikes an exquisite balance between angular innovation and broad accessibility. The sound is robust and enticing, with a playful edge that radiates warmth and emotion. Building on a career that began with the legendary duo The Knife alongside his sibling Karin Dreijer, and enriched by his work as a producer for Fever Ray and other intriguing acts, Dreijer has emerged from a hiatus with a refreshed artistic vision.

His recent tracks—including the enchanting Rosa Rugosa on Hessle Audio—mark a new chapter in his music, leading to a string of engaging releases on Dekmantel and AD93, alongside remixes for icons like Björk and Rosalía. Dreijer reflects on this rebirth, stating, “After taking a break, I’m very happy to have arrived at allowing myself to just have fun with my own music again.”
At the core of Dreijer’s artistry lies a determination to challenge the prevailing norms of the music scene. His collaboration with Sudanese singer MaMan on “Echoed Dafnino” underscores this mission, pairing a sweet Arabic vocal with a vibrant electronic backdrop. Dreijer recounts, “I was so moved the first time I heard the original version of Dafnino. MaMan’s voice is so beautiful… it became more than just a remix.”

The music video, directed by the talented Suelem De Oliveira da Silva, presents a vivid blend of cultures. De Oliveira elaborates, “I wanted to bring a pulse of Brazilian energy into the techno world… It’s about warmth and movement that carries you, creating a sense of community.” The result is a daring visual spectacle that invites viewers into a more expressive and inviting realm of techno.
