“My name is Lea Maria Kahl and I’m a German fashion and communication design student based in Düsseldorf, currently graduating from the Design Department Düsseldorf.
With every collection, I visualize the influences of the outside world on my emotional life.
My graduate collection “PICKING UP SHARDS“ is a response to this relentless pursuit of perfection that still drives our society. It tells the story of someone, who starts to find beauty in the unexpected, in things, that he never would have looked at and to value these things again.
The collection is based on my fascination for shards of glass and their arbitrary shapes and structures. I saw them as a symbol for ourselves and how we treat each other but also for our consumerism influenced by our abovementioned desire for perfection. So I decided to use them as an inspiration and to integrate the visual features of broken glass into my designs. Basically, my collection is a homage to all the treasures, that we didn’t value or even see before while trying to reach unreachable perfection.”
