When it comes to fashion Kuwait might not be the first place that comes to mind.. well no longer. Introducing TENTH AREA, inspired by material world and the world of yesterday. We speak to the designer / owner of this exciting emerging brand that we defy anyone not to take notice of!
KALTBLUT: Tell me a little bit about how TENTH AREA and your journey that led to releasing your first collection?
TENTH AREA: TENTH AREA is the name of the district i live in, that in itself explains many things I believe. Need is what led me to my first collection. The need to express myself. The need to use the neglected aesthetics that surrounds me, both in the material world and the world of yesterdays. For example, I sometimes use the marvellous Arabic handwriting that is merely used in fashion. I also branch out to experiment on other methods in this fast-paced fashion world. It’s all very enjoyable to me, thats what keeps me going.
KALTBLUT: How would You describe the TENTH AREA customers ?
TENTH AREA: According to our list of buyers, they’re mostly artists, stylists, designers, fashion bloggers and others. We think that all our customers share the same memories in one way or another, no matter how different their lives are from each other. We believe they find a way to express their passion towards many things with us.
KALTBLUT: Are there any fashion icons who inspire the TENTH AREA style?
TENTH AREA: Jaden Smith and Harry Styles.
KALTBLUT: What would you say makes TENTH AREA stand out against then other brands?
TENTH AREA: I believe that what makes TENTH AREA stand out that we try to reflect art and cultural memories in a fashionable way. We try to compress nostalgia in a shirt or a jacket. the things that defined us culturally in the past is what remains with us in the present. Each in their own field tries to create a new version of the past, We do it on our own field. Our local culture has hardly been represented anywhere, especially in fashion, and that, i think, is what makes us stand out.
KALTBLUT: What advice would you give to people who want to experiment more with the clothes they wear?
TENTH AREA: Wear whatever you want but most importantly be comfortable in what you wear.
KALTBLUT: What are your favourite pieces from the upcoming new season?
TENTH AREA: Black suit jacket, why? Simplicity is sometimes more fashionable than complications.
KALTBLUT: If TENTH AREA was an ice-cream, what flavours would it be?
TENTH AREA: I don’t know… if Tenth Area was an ice cream it would either be too frozen to eat or it would melt down immediately.
KALTBLUT: What was the last music track you listened to?
TENTH AREA: Leonard Cohen – Please don’t pass me by.
KALTBLUT: Finally, what can we expect to see from TENTH AREA in the near future?
TENTH AREA: After the next collection, the future is blank. We could even stop making clothes and probably engage in a protest back here and die.
