R&B-soul sensation and poetic songwriter Amunaso has dropped her latest single, “Yembela. ” This track effortlessly marries her Congolese heritage with contemporary soundscapes. Originally born from a tropical afro/zouk vibe, “Yembela” underwent a significant transformation to reach its current form. “I wanted it to be a band experience,” Amunaso recalls. With guitarist Nathan’s suggestion to switch to a slow-jam drum pattern, the track found its heart and intimacy. The result is a lush soundscape where the guitar stands out, culminating in a dramatic solo that serves as the emotional climax.
Amunaso reflects on her recording process, emphasising the importance of creating a space to fully embrace the emotions stirred by her music. “I love to record vocals at home. It’s where I can take my time and truly connect with what I’m feeling,” she explains. Each note, every harmony added is a deliberate act to evoke a dreamy, ethereal ambience.
The lyrics of “Yembela” were inspired by a vision of a couple dancing under palm trees by the sea, deeply in love. This imagery unfolded naturally as she hummed along to the initial beat, with Lingala words flowing as a prayer for sacred love. “Everything we do is a form of prayer,” Amunaso asserts, highlighting the sacred nature of music in her life.
Following the success of her debut album, “The Moon Listens To My Stories,” released on 11/11/2022, Amunaso is poised for transformation in 2025, infusing her sonic universe with influences from soul, R&B, and Congolese rumba.
