Kate and Serge remember a careless time they spent together experimenting with photography and thinking about gender normality. Now, 2 friends are a thousand miles apart. In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Kate fled to Berlin while Serge remained in the country. Their newfound distance has made them appreciate the strength of their friendship even more.
After rewatching these photos taken in a Kyiv suburbs house in 2021, just a few kilometers from where Russian tanks were halted less than a year later, Kate and Serge are finding that what was originally intended to be a playful photo shoot has taken on a deeper meaning.
