KALTBLUT: “Observez-moi” marks a significant shift from your earlier work. What motivated this change in direction?

RADØUX: After releasing my first EP « Through Other Eyes » I underwent many different musical phases. I started reconnecting more to my French roots and wrote more lyrics in French even going as far as doing very traditional-sounding chansons. The shift came when I spent 6 months in Paris last year and started to miss Berlin and its vibrant club scene. This is where Ole (my longtime collaborator) and I began to incorporate more Techno sounds in our songs. This EP is the result of this reinvention and a taste of what there is to come in the future.

KALTBLUT: Berlin’s techno club culture heavily influences your new beats. How has Berlin’s music scene shaped your sound?

RADØUX: Berlin’s music DNA is all over in my music I would say. After COVID I started to go clubbing regularly and fell in love with the pulsating club culture of Berlin. I feel inspired every time I go out dancing. There is a special energy in most clubs in Berlin and the music, the people I meet, the stories I hear and the moments I live heavily inspire my music sonically and lyrically. I want to capture this very special energy I feel in my music.

KALTBLUT: You described the sound of the EP as more futuristic, dirtier, and bolder. What inspired this new sonic aesthetic?

RADØUX: After my first EP I was on a kind of self-discovery journey as an artist. I had an album worth of material I could’ve released but was unhappy with the direction and didn’t feel like it represented the artist I wanted to be. When we started working on this EP and reinvented my sound, we didn’t think too much about which direction we wanted to go. The new sonic aesthetic came very naturally and effortlessly. It is also an aesthetic I am excited to explore more and go even more extreme in.

KALTBLUT: How did your approach to composing and producing “Observez-moi” differ from your previous releases?

RADØUX: The approach that differs from previous releases is, that I wrote what I wanted to write, without thinking of what the reaction of the listeners could be. I became way more expressive and unhinged in my lyrics and wrote about topics I wouldn’t have dared to write about years ago.

KALTBLUT: Which track on the EP do you feel best encapsulates the theme of “Observez-moi,” and why?

RADØUX: I would say the title track best encapsulates the theme of the EP sonically and lyrically. Its sexual nature paired with a hard beat, a massive bass and my soft vocals represent the EP the best.

KALTBLUT: Your confidence and determination shine through in this EP. How have your personal and artistic growth influenced this work?

RADØUX: I think I became way more confident not just as an artist but also as a person during the process of this project. I know better what I want, I am better at standing my ground and am not so much of a people pleaser as I used to be. Regarding the influence this growth had on my artistic work, I am not scared anymore to make bolder production choices and write completely in French, which I used to be very insecure about in the past.

KALTBLUT: How do you hope listeners will react to the radical changes in “Observez-moi” compared to your previous work?

RADØUX: I honestly haven’t thought about the listener’s reaction, cause my last release was so much time ago, but I hope they will love it, embrace it and dance to it. I can’t wait to perform this EP live.

KALTBLUT: Can you walk us through the creative process behind one of the standout tracks on the EP?

RADØUX: One stand-out track for me is « Désir à l’infini » (Infinite desire). This song is not just the saddest and slowest but I would say also the most artistic one. I wrote it after I arrived in Paris last year. I was in a very bad physical and mental state, feeling sick for more than a month and didn’t understand what was wrong with me. Ole and I were working through Zoom at that time and after we had a rough demo of the beat I started to write lyrics. I wrote them very effortlessly and once I was done writing them, the next day I already felt better and was not sick anymore. It felt like a miracle and like I had to get all these things off my chest to heal. This is why this song has such a special place in my heart.

KALTBLUT: What’s next for RADØUX? Do you see this new direction as a lasting change, or is it just one phase in your evolving musical journey?

RADØUX: The new direction is one that I am exploring more and more at the moment and in which I feel the most comfortable. I already have a lot of new songs I am working on that I am gonna release after this EP. Also experimented more with the new sound and went further into a more club direction and even incorporated drum and bass into my sound.
