Les Insolites Art Gallery is pleased to present “Rendez-vous à Tanger”, a solo exhibition by Italian, London-based photographer Davide Edoardo, on view till 14 October 2025 (new extended date) in Tangier, Morocco. The show unfolds as a visual love letter to a city that has fascinated the photographer since 2019.
Tangier, positioned between Europe and Africa and at the meeting point of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, has long been a crossroads of cultures and myths. “It was in Tangier, in 2022, that I decided to devote myself entirely to photography, my lifelong passion, leaving behind my previous career in fashion,” Davide Edoardo recalls. “Tangier, a city I have been visiting since 2019 and which had always fascinated me even from afar, sparked in me the courage and inspiration for this new beginning.”
The exhibition features 18 black-and-white photographs, all in cinematic 16:9 format. The photographer’s minimal and elegant visual style, informed by his background in fashion photography, gives the series a quiet sophistication. At the heart of the work lies a story: a sailor arrives in Tangier and, over the course of 24 hours, surrenders to the city’s rhythm, scents, and disarming energy. As he moves through its streets, drawn in by its scents and energy, he begins to let go of his inner constraints and embraces the freedom the city evokes. Tangier becomes a space of transformation. It’s a story of an encounter, an attraction that leaves an indelible mark on his heart and mind.
“I wanted to dedicate my first photographic project to the city,” Davide adds. “My aim was to capture certain corners of Tangier that are particularly dear to me, some more recognisable, others less well known but with a strong aesthetic.”
The imagery draws on cinematic references. “I chose a cinematic approach because the city, with its past as an international zone, evokes a sense of suspension in time. I drew inspiration from the atmosphere of Fassbinder’s films, with a touch of mystery reminiscent of Only Lovers Left Alive and a hint of nocturnal glamour à la Newton. I wanted to create timeless images of a city that, by contrast, is changing very quickly.”
Printed on fine art paper, the works emphasise the depth of black-and-white tonalities while evoking the mood of classic Noir cinema. Opening night transformed Les Insolites into an immersive journey: Moroccan music and the delicate scent of orange blossoms guided visitors through the sailor’s path, turning the gallery into a multi-sensory stage set.
With Rendez-vous à Tanger, Davide Edoardo offers more than photography. The photographer distils the essence of a city caught between continents and centuries, inviting viewers to linger in its shadows, its light, and its timeless allure.
