SANKUANZ F/W 25-26 – Chöd – Laughter of the Dakinis

Step aside for another captivating chapter in SANKUANZ’s creative journey, as the brand introduces its Fall/Winter 2025-2026 collection titled “Chöd – Laughter of the Dakinis.” This season, SANKUANZ dives deeper into the mystical allure of the Himalayas—tracing threads of spirituality, culture, and avant-garde fashion.

“Chöd,” a term steeped in Tibetan meditative tradition, translates to “severing”—an evocative word depicting a practice where practitioners venture into solitude under cover of night, armed with a bone trumpet and hand drum. Here, they chant mantras, aiming to transcend the physical realm and embrace the profound wisdom of selflessness. This exploration of life and death remains central to the collection, translating unfathomable spiritual philosophies into striking design elements.

The identity of SANKUANZ lies in the bold fusion of past and present, an alchemy of high fashion and streetwear that refuses to settle. The “Chöd” collection is no exception, boasting a poetically modern interpretation of Himalayan attire that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Expect nothing less than sartorial poetry as traditional Himalayan attire takes centre stage. Oversized seamless coats mimic the flowing silhouette of Tibetan robes, adorned with subtle oriental flourishes that feel both casual and chic. The iconic draping of these robes is reinterpreted through clever folds and kangaroo pockets, blending art with functionality. Tailored jackets maintain their signature asymmetrical wrap, ensuring that heritage remains in harmonious dialogue with modern utility.

Rich fabrics intrinsic to the Himalayas—think yak wool and silk—are reimagined into denim streetwear and sumptuous velvet eveningwear. This season heralds the alchemy of cultural authenticity seamlessly woven into versatile silhouettes.

The collection’s jewellery ethos explores the ephemeral nature of life, drawing from Himalayan philosophies that encourage detachment from the fear of death. SANKUANZ channels this poignancy, crafting pieces inspired by the human form—think fine designs echoing body organs, where triangular motifs meet spiritual insight, transforming wearable art into profound statements.

Accessories in this collection navigate deeper into the heart of Himalayan ceremonial attire. Baseball caps, reincarnated from ancient masked headdresses, flaunt intricate beadwork and playful tassels. A clutch bag artfully mirrors Tibetan scriptures, while stoles and hobo sling bags are crafted in the shape of human figures. These design narratives serve to celebrate transcending life and death, seamlessly merging Himalayan spirituality with contemporary aesthetics.

In a bold, fresh collaboration, SANKUANZ partners with the experimental Young Boy Dancing Group (YBDG) this season, blending the sophistication of fashion with the raw energy of performance art. The dancers, vibrantly painted in red—a nod to last season’s “Dancer in the Void”—bring forth intense spiritual energy through their evocative movements. This collaboration encapsulates the tension between body and spirit, life and death while fostering a dialogue that binds traditional culture with modern artistry.

Through this breathtaking showcase, SANKUANZ progressively establishes its identity as a dynamic bridge between the past and present, channelling the forces of fashion and art into a singularly meaningful expression. The “Chöd – Laughter of the Dakinis” collection is more than just a fashion statement; it’s an invitation to explore and celebrate the complexities of existence.
