His latest release, “Golden,” is a collaborative effort with fellow Canadian-American rapper Cadence Weapon. According to Sleepy Tom, “Golden” was an unexpected collaboration, as it was the first time he had worked with a rapper. However, “Golden” seamlessly blends his signature sound with Cadence Weapon’s flow, showcasing Sleepy Tom’s production adaptability. The track is described as a “glistening, feel-good anthem” founded upon what Sleepy Tom has called his “best kick drum” beat to date.
“Golden” is Cadence Weapon’s way of throwing a big, glitzy party for himself. The lyrics are like a mic drop, with the rapper strutting around, boasting about his fancy watch, his hot date, and how he’s the life of the bash. It’s a total flex, but you can’t help but get caught up in the infectious energy.
The song starts with Cadence Weapon declaring himself the “showstopper, party rocker” – the guy everyone’s eyes are on. The verses are packed with vivid, almost comical comparisons, like calling himself a “supernova” and his crew “Cosa Nostra.” It’s over-the-top but in the most delightful way.
