Cuushe once again entrances listeners with her ethereal vocals and dreamy soundscapes in her latest single, ‘Faded Corners’. This lullaby-like gem was composed specifically for the shop Daughter in collaboration with photographer Kazuhei Kimura’s work 湖 Awaumi. ‘Faded Corners’ highlights Cuushe’s gorgeous voice, drawing inspiration from “Ryojin”, a nod to the legendary anthology of Heian-period songs. The piece beautifully revives the celebrated song “Asobi wo Sento Ya~” from the Ryojin Hisho, a renowned collection of songs from the late Heian period. Her music, influenced by dream pop and ambient genres, skillfully weaves delicate emotions and memories into each piece.
Adding a layer of exhilaration, this release is accompanied by remixes from three talented artists. The Korean electronic duo Salamanda, Indonesian producer Melati ESP from Asatone, and Japanese artist aus each put their distinctive spin on ‘Faded Corners’, infusing it with new life.
Japanese artist Cuushe, raised in Kyoto, has called Osaka, Tokyo, London, and Berlin home. Her debut album, Red Rocket Telepathy, mirrors her varied travels, blending her eastern roots with western influences. In 2012, she released Girl You Know That I Am Here But The Dream on FLAU, which was hailed by Time Out Tokyo as the “best Japanese album of 2012.” Her subsequent releases, Butterfly Case (2013) and the EP Night Lines (2015), solidified her global presence, with the track ‘We Can’t Stop’ featured in the U.S. TV series Search Party. Known for her airy, captivating vocals and dreamy soundscapes, Cuushe has opened for Julia Holter, Julianna Barwick, and Grouper. She has also collaborated with Iglooghost and Kidkanevil and had her work remixed by notable artists such as Loraine James, Yu Su, Kate NV, Nite Jewel, Suzanne Kraft, Teen Daze, Submerse, Ciel, Palmistry, and many others.
