Sound Of The Week: Love Moor

Love Moor unveils her new 6-track EP LOVE, a heartfelt and sultry project that touches on all aspects of the concept – falling in and out of it. Love taps into many sides of the burgeoning artist and shares glimpse of her vulnerability alongside her bold and playful messages. In making the EP, Love realizes her self-worth and puts herself first.

The EP is also accompanied by a music video for single ‘Pacifier’ that features Moliy (‘SAD GIRLZ LUV MONEY’ Kali Uchis). The duo perform in a lush tropical city-scape, complimenting the sultry nature of the record. The visual is just as dazzling as it is grounded.

My EP LOVE is really just an extension of myself and my inner world. It encompasses the sexy, the silly, and the lover in me. I wanted to show the depth of true love and all its forms… from vulnerability to strength, insecurity to confidence, desire burning from lust to comfort. To me, love is more than a feeling. It’s an action and a person and a place. It’s the ultimate expression of our human nature.

An island girl with southern roots, Love Moor brings a deliciously eclectic mix of influences to her music. Her warm, raspy vocals sing evocative stories about relationships, sexuality, empowerment, and heartbreak with mature introspection.

Love was born in New York and raised in Miami by her Caribbean parents, who laid the foundation for the kind of artist she is today. With her father working as a DJ and her mom who came to America to become a singer, Love was destined for stardom. At home it was Diana Ross, Bob Marley, and Amy Winehouse on rotation; anything with soul that made you dance.

As she puts it, she “became a woman” in Alabama; so spending an important period of her life there put another indelible mark on her music. But whether it’s seeped in R&B, neosoul, hip-hop, or alternative sounds, there is always a consistent stream of island vibes coming from the lyrics or groovy production in her songs. Listening to her music lets you soak up her electric energy from the soundwaves. She says, “I just wanna be everybody’s homegirl!”

Her first project Motions, which dropped November 2020, was a relatable, vulnerable collection of Love’s emotions, focusing on her feelings of dissociation due to chaotic world events. The project caught national attention and in 2022 Love Moor signed to Human Re-Sources.

Love Moor has recently opened up tours for Durand Bernarr and Gene Noble and supported acts like H.E.R., Tank and the Bangas, Dessa, St. Paul, Broken Bones, R.LUM.R., Amasa Hines, Mega Ran, and Nnamdi Ogbonnaya. This rising artist has also shared the stage with Sammus, The New Respects, Boyfriend, and Lando Chill, among others.

For a relatively new act, her past performances are impressive and include SXSW, Southsounds, Secret Stages Festival, SLOSSfest, Westobou Music and Arts Festival, and Thacker Mountain Radio Hour, which broadcasts on multiple NPR outlets. Her 2021 feature on Sofar Sounds has also garnered over 350,000 views on YouTube. In addition to Spectrasonic Sound Sessions and Birmingham Mountain Radio featuring her in February 2019, she was listed in NPR’s Austin 100 as “the best SXSW 2018 has to offer.”
