“The collection, titled “Xhosa,” is about the indigenous Xhosa people of South Africa, who traditionally live in the Eastern Cape. Their spiritual beliefs and community life have shaped their cultural identity and sustainable lives. I was most inspired by their connection to each other and to their spiritual ancestors, who influence their daily lives and dress.
The Xhosa represent the better version of people influenced by capitalism. Nowadays we are under the influence of consumerism. The Xhosa could serve as a great inspiration for us.
New dimensions of materiality are created through the processing and manipulation of fabrics. Natural colours meet artificial colours. The collection should be unique and not easily interchangeable.”
