A Visionary Choreographer: Alishanee Chafe-Hearmon
“My name is Alishanee, and I am a choreographer and dancer based between New York and Berlin,” she introduces herself. With a rich training background spanning classical, modern, and flamenco styles, Alishanee’s movements transcend conventional boundaries. On July 30th, she is organizing a dance fundraiser for Gaza at Hosek Contemporary, a testament to her deep commitment to social causes through her art.
A Year in the Making
Alishanee and her creative partner, Fox Conner, have been meticulously crafting this show for over a year. Their collaboration has birthed a performance that is nothing short of magical, enhanced by the evocative live music of Zaher Alkaei and Nabil Arbaain. The visual allure of “Stalk of the Grain” is further heightened by set designs from Lukas Oppenheimer and costumes by Anabel Simotas.
An Artist’s Journey
Alishanee is not just a dancer but a multidisciplinary artist with a BA from CUNY Hunter College, where she designed her degree encompassing dance, theology, and psychology. She operates as a freelance dancer, dividing her time between New York City and Berlin. Her recent endeavours include a performance at Uferstudios, Berlin, in August 2022. Her dance language is a unique confluence of Flamenco, Horton, Gaga, and Shaolin Kung Fu techniques. Additionally, Alishanee’s current research ventures into the realms of folk medicine, dance therapy, and Jungian psychoanalysis, showcasing her continuous quest for integrating diverse forms of expression and healing.
