Introducing Sunday Best by LOBOMAR – Founded by siblings Marcella and Marco Lobo who grew up in Köln and London with Indian-Italian parents. LOBOMAR- emerged out of their experiences and a desire to explore how choice and composition can be used to create personal expressions of identity that are not bound by traditional notions of authenticity.
Sunday Best is a phrase deeply rooted in tradition, referring to the finest attire in one’s wardrobe, often kept aside specifically for Sunday Church Service. For Marcella and Marco, the phrase evokes fond memories of their childhood and a fascination toward reimagining past rituals into present-day contexts. They always loved watching all the women and men in the family get ready for church, family functions, and dinners. The picking and choosing of outfits, the energy of the anticipation building up.

The label’s inaugural “Quinto” T-shirt emerged as a way to deconstruct past and present
traditions to create personal ones. It has Sarees sewn in that were personally sourced by their aunt and ladies across Mumbai neighbourhoods. The ladies loved the idea of their Sarees forming the genesis of reimagined traditions and new stories.
Marcella and Marco’s love and familiarity with Sarees comes from their paternal grandmother, Stella, who was more widely known as Omai. During their visits to Mumbai and Goa growing up, it was the only garment they ever saw her wear. There was a Saree for cooking delicious meals, a Saree to wear to the market, others for nighttime gossiping in the neighbourhood, and yet more lavish ones for church, restaurants, and weddings. In each rendition, it would be draped and styled to fit her intent.
For the looks, Marcella wanted to spotlight the Saree in a way that pays homage to the traditional uses of her grandmother, her aunt, and the ladies who kindly passed on their Sarees. She drew inspiration from their family’s photo portraits and their version of a Sunday Best. But decided to break the formal image with a more relaxed staple, the Quinto T-Shirt.”
