A Masterclass in Material Fusion. As we delve into the latest offering from TAAKK, the Fall/Winter 2025 collection encapsulates the brand’s innovative ethos and distinctive design philosophy. Under the visionary guidance of Takuya Morikawa, TAAKK has once again pushed the envelope of fabric experimentation, intertwining the eclectic and the avant-garde to create pieces that speak not just to the eye but ignite the imagination.

MIXTURE WOOL / DENIM
The standout feature of this collection is the groundbreaking Mixture of Wool / Denim. Through a meticulous process that marries traditionally incongruous materials, we witness the harmonious coexistence of plain wool and herringbone alongside the unexpected pairing of denim and leopard print. This pioneering fabric confronts the notion of “dépaysement,” enticing wearers to embrace a fusion of texture and an electrifying visual narrative.

GRADIENT WOVEN FABRIC
TAAKK’s exploration of Gradient Woven Fabric continues to evolve beautifully in this collection. The transformation of an acetate souvenir jacket into a tailored wool silhouette, a wool jacket morphing into a sleek nylon MA-1, and the playful evolution of a glittering tweed jacket into a sporty polyethene blouson exemplifies the brand’s commitment to redefining contemporary menswear. Each piece reflects the collection’s essence of blending materiality with design, offering an arresting dépaysement of style.

dépaysement—a surrealist technique that juxtaposes familiar imagery in unfamiliar contexts—shines through in each garment, inviting a sense of delightful incongruity.

ABOUT TAAKK

Founded in Tokyo in 2013 by the talented Takuya Morikawa, TAAKK has rapidly ascended the ranks of the fashion world. Having honed his skills at ISSEY MIYAKE for eight years, Morikawa’s discerning eye for detail and commitment to fabric innovation have garnered the brand notable accolades, including the coveted title of Best New Designer at the Tokyo Fashion Awards in both 2014 and 2017. In 2019, he claimed the prestigious Fashion Prize of Tokyo, awarded by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Japan Apparel Fashion Industry Council. Added to this impressive repertoire are his nominations as a Semi-Finalist for the LVMH Prize in 2021.

TAAKK’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection is not merely a showcase of clothing; it is a provocative dialogue on the art of fashion, one that leaves an indelible mark on the landscape of contemporary design. I find it utterly captivating.
