They / Them

I know I can’t change that on my own, but I can certainly try.”

“For a deeper motivation for being non-binary, I’d like to hand it over to the model, Job: It is not easy to describe what it is like to simply exist. Because of that, it’s difficult to explain what it is like to be non-binary. It is, quite simply, the truth of my life. Masculinity and femininity exist; I see it constantly, and I feel it everywhere. On the diverse spectrum of gender, I am nothing, and I am everything.

Finding the right words to describe my internal world has changed my life. Non-binary identities represent the ultimate freedom. I live between unwritten rules, surpassing my own expectations of courage and authenticity. Sometimes I feel more feminine, sometimes more masculine. Clothing never dictates my identity.

In this photo series, you see me. This is my body, in my own thrifted clothes, in my own little living space; captured through Armando’s lens. I cannot control what people see when they look at me. What I do know is that through this series, they see an honest reflection of my existence outside the binary experience of gender.

Ciao,
Armando Branco & Job Heide”
