Tom of Finland needs no introduction. He is best known for his groundbreaking homoerotic iconography, which has been a major influence on late twentieth century gay culture. Touko Laaksonen, AKA Tom of Finland, has produced more than 3500 illustrations. Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to show all of them here, but for me, he created the first male pin up and brought it into the mainstream, although we had to wait till the 70’s for them drawings to really gain gay mainstream appeal. I purposefully did not include the pornographic ones, because I think thoses are the most popular. Instead I have chosen to go for his simple silhouettes. Hope you enjoy my selection.
