Vanessa Baernthol made her runway debut with the Fall/Winter 2025 collection, ‘REBUILT’, during Berlin Fashion Week. Renowned for her architectural vision in fashion and strong commitment to sustainable production, Baernthol’s latest collection explores the deconstruction and redefinition of layering as both an artistic and functional practice. Set against the backdrop of the Quantum Oddity Gallery Berlin, Ku’damm, the event showcased the seamless fusion of fashion and art.
Following the success of previous presentations like ‘Heaven And Hell’ at the BFW showroom, ‘Thorns’ at ‘Der Berliner Salon’ in the Bode Museum, and ‘Threads’ during Berlin Art Week, this runway show marks a pivotal moment for Baernthol’s brand. It highlights an ethos centred on luxurious craftsmanship and timeless design.

The Concept of ‘REBUILT’ – An Exploration of Layering
‘REBUILT’ centres around the exploration of layering, a defining element of Baernthol’s identity. The runway presented a gradual evolution of looks, beginning with minimal, semi-transparent base layers and culminating in complex, voluminous silhouettes. The collection encapsulates a dynamic aesthetic, where layering plays a key role in adding depth and texture to each ensemble.
The ‘REBUILT’ collection conveys a visual transformation narrative, employing layering as an evolving dialogue between delicate base structures and architectural outerwear. The transition from I- and Y- to X-silhouettes also enriches the collection’s narrative. A palette dominated by dark black tones, monochromatic greys, ashy earth tones, and light sands was utilized throughout.

In Baernthol’s own words, “Rebuilt—I wanted to create something that isn’t just a fleeting statement but an integral part of a wardrobe—pieces that can be reinterpreted over and over again. This collection responds to our fast-paced, throwaway culture, embracing versatility and longevity while finding new value in what already exists. We aim to minimize the environmental impact of a fashion show lasting only 20–30 minutes, focusing on natural resources and repurposing unwanted materials.”

A Holistic Approach to Sustainability
The ‘REBUILT’ collection prominently features dead stock fabrics, reimagined through innovative craftsmanship in collaboration with FabricHouse.com. Shoes for the show were provided by Berlin-based brand Trippen, recognized for its ecological and socially responsible production practices.
Moreover, the set design utilized discarded plaster chunks from Skulpturengießerei Knaak—negative moulds that are typically cast aside but were repurposed as integral visual elements of the show. The architectural runway setting, characterized by open concrete floors and structural columns, echoed the reconstructed essence of the collection. Rental-based components, including venue chairs, further emphasized the brand’s commitment to a circular approach to production and consumption.

The event was supported by partners such as Kryolan Berlin, which provided professional rental makeup mirrors, and UndGretel, offering cruelty-free cosmetics made from natural ingredients. Kolonne Null contributed premium non-alcoholic wines, produced with a focus on biodiversity and sustainable practices. Thanks to all partners and sponsors for their support.
