VELÁSQUEZ S/S24 - METEMPSYCHOSIS

noun. The transmigration at death of the soul into a new body. SS24 is a look back at Velásquezʼs identity and previous body of work. We dive back into the brand’s previous collections to analyse its DNA, selling points and core messages.  Digging deeper into the recurrent themes of gender, queer culture and conscious methodologies that have shaped the brand to create a new collection that emphasises the brand values and allows it for a rebirth.

EXHIBITION CONCEPT

We continue our journey to explore and subvert the archetypes of the Menswear scope with the designerʼs coined aesthetic infused with a rebellious and ‘punkguardistaʼ spirit, we present a mash-up of repurposed leathers, denim and cyclist garments that allows the wearer to self-expression in the most personal, political and sustainable way.

With this exhibition, Velásquez welcomes the audience into its unique world. The brand uses this space to give a platform to unheard voices and stories from the LGBTQI+ community to transmit the brand’s transcendental message of community and inclusion.

Taking as inspiration the work of Francis Bacon we are driven into three different set designs inspired by the painter’s triptychs, depicting three common recurring stages that can be transmuted to the life’s struggles of persons with non-conventional backgrounds.

A combination of set design, lighting, scenography, video installations and audiovisual content where we’re introduced to the brand’s methodologies of work, helps us to submerge ourselves in an open dialogue that invites us to question our relationship with the planet and the individuals in it.
