Video Premiere: Bakläxa – Have Faith

Ecke Records unveils its latest series, ‘dECK’, featuring a curated lineup of releases available in both digital and tape formats. Every installment showcases work by a featured artist, accompanied by remixes, with each tape release limited to just 50 copies.

In the inaugural dECK1 release, Tash Todd (she/her), known in the electronic music scene as Bakläxa, makes her solo debut with the ‘Swordfish EP’. The aesthetic of the cover art takes inspiration from the iconic 1984 ‘Bassmate by Probe 2000’ fishing computer, a nostalgic trigger for many.

With ‘Have Faith’, the track unfolds through the interplay of ethereal pads and a restrained breakbeat, gradually building until a powerful kick propels the rhythm forward. Listeners are enveloped in a cocoon of deep bass, carrying them through to the final beat.

Bakläxa shares a slice of her journey in the music video for ‘Have Faith’, with scenes shot in slow motion across European landscapes by train last summer, capturing the serene beauty of both the Atlantic and Mediterranean seas, all documented on her fairphone.

The ‘Swordfish EP’ draws its name from an actual encounter with the elusive creature off the coasts of Sicily. The creative process for the title track, as well as the inception of the entire EP, began during a train journey subsequent to this encounter. Years in development, the EP echoes themes of optimism fused with the melancholy of loss.

Bakläxa’s broadcast, ‘Learning Curves’, on THFRadio investigates initiatives taking place within Berlin – these involve social change, activism, and promoting cultural consciousness.

Her discography includes contributions to Ecke Records’ ‘F.O.E.’ series, a release on Paloma’s ‘Paloma Vs. Virus 005’, and a high-energy two-track EP titled ‘CiV / VIC’ released on ClubQu with Neutralised, the Cybernetic DJ Duo she forms with pbl.fyi.
