Video Premiere: Christian Löffler – Lys (feat. Menke)

A natural calmness and luminance pervade the single ‘Lys’ featuring Menke. Beginning with Swedish singer’s Menke yearning vocals layered atop a metronomic beat, the track progresses with a cascading melody, building to an echoing chorus. Christian Löffler deftly constructs sonic landscapes filled with both somber lows and euphoric highs, creating an atmosphere of tranquility through melancholic, yet uplifting instrumentals. “This track reflects on the main topic of the album – the light. How it marks the passing time during the day, the passing of seasons in a year, and the constant change of everything that surrounds us,” says Christian Löffler. For the video, British filmmaker Lauren Pringle worked with close friends and artists Petra Hermanova and Agustin Farias. Petra is the artist behind the warped scanning visuals in the piece and Agustin the editor and photographer. Together they collaborated to work with the track and find the best ways to create a feeling of a troubled mind that keeps moving in it’s flow passing through the light no matter what happens. ‘Lys’ is the title track of Christian’s new album out now on Ki Records.

Lauren explains on the video, “It was at first challenging but then working with abstract concepts and making this a collaborative project, I felt like we came up with a dynamic and beautiful piece of work that evokes the emotion of the beautiful track and also showcases the talented works of Agustin and Petra in a multi-dimensional format.”

Lys, Christian Löffler’s newest album, serves as a sequel and contrast to Graal, its predecessor. Whereas the latter is the result of a six-month period spent largely on the road in between live shows, the former is a studio release in the truest sense, recorded and compiled in the serenity of Löffler’s home studio.
