This empowering track, crafted entirely by Santiago himself, written, recorded, and produced, serves as a vibrant tribute to the shared language within queer culture, particularly among gay men.
The genesis of “Homoerotic” comes from Santiago’s personal narrative of pushing back against a record label that deemed his creative visions “too gay” for mainstream appeal. In a courageous act of defiance, he channels his experiences into a song that celebrates authenticity and sexual liberation.
Produced by Cuni’s innovative company, COLMADO, the accompanying video aims to bridge the divide between traditional heteronormative standards and the boundless expressions found within queer culture. Shot on 16mm film, the music video showcases a diverse ensemble of queer performers, independent artists, and immigrant voices, encapsulating the essence of resilience through art.
Gabriel Santiago advocates for art that is loud and unapologetically queer, especially in an era where LGBTQ+ rights are under threat globally. “This is a small act of resistance,” he states, underscoring the importance of visibility and celebration in the face of adversity.
