Romy describes “Love Who You Love” as a definitive queer love song, emphasising the importance of acknowledging the struggles many in the LGBTQ+ community face when it comes to openly expressing their love. In response to these challenges, she aimed to craft a song that not only celebrates and affirms love but also calls for change. The narrative of resilience and solidarity amidst adversity within the community holds significant importance for her. She shares, “For me personally, queer nightlife has allowed me to find friends, family, and role models, people from whom I could learn. These experiences have given me a sense of not being alone and have emboldened me in many aspects of life. These encounters and experiences continue to influence my music. This song is intended as a love letter to visibility and pride. No one can take away the love you feel; it belongs to you.”

Two years after the critically acclaimed and GRAMMY and BRIT Award-nominated debut album “Mid Air,” Romy solidifies her role as a defining voice in contemporary dance music. Since the release of “Mid Air,” she has been involved in several high-profile collaborations, including “I’m On Your Team” with Sampha, a reinterpretation of the classic “Always Forever” featuring a video directed by “Aftersun” director Charlotte Wells, “Lift You Up” with Jessie Ware, as well as “Waited All Night” alongside her bandmates in The xx, Jamie xx and Oliver Sim.
Currently, Romy has reunited with The xx in the studio to work on new music, leaving us eagerly anticipating her next artistic endeavours. As dedicated fans, we can’t help but celebrate her captivating journey and her remarkable contributions to music.
