This poignant narrative unfolds as our protagonist relocates to a cosy flat shared with a friend, weighed down by an overwhelming number of suitcases and an emotional heaviness that shadows her every step. As her friend heads out to work, she finds herself navigating the chaotic world alone, desperately seeking a semblance of stability amid the relentless whirl of rising rents, overwhelming apartment listings, and the anxious echoes of her parents’ concerned phone calls.

In this whirlwind, she clings to familiar routines and self-care practices, which barely keep her afloat. Her days are punctuated by moments of dance and humour; she fights to maintain her sanity, yet each attempt feels ephemeral. The cacophony of breaking news only amplifies her distress, possessions pile up around her, and the mirror reflects a stranger staring back. As weariness envelops her, she locks eyes with us, exhausted and overwhelmed, yet unwaveringly in search of a true place to call home.
Searching for an apartment without a network, that feeling of uncertainty and disorientation. We’ve experienced it ourselves, just like many of our friends. What continues to move us is the power of collaborating with other artists. It opens up new perspectives, sparks inspiration, and often brings unexpected surprises. Veronika does that in such a beautiful way. We first met at a live show, and from that moment, an unexpected creative journey and special partnership began. When we later saw her film at the Girls Go Movie festival, the connection was instantly clear.
We share a deep passion for artistic freedom and honest expression.
The Musical Soul of USED
The film’s evocative soundtrack brings a compelling depth, courtesy of the German indie pop ensemble, USED. Led by the soulful songwriting of twin brothers Marco and Dario Klein, their sound seamlessly blends British pop sensibilities with vibrant rock and roll and ethereal ballads.
After refining their craft at the Pop Academy in Mannheim, the duo crossed the ocean to secure a publishing and management deal in the United States. Upon returning to Germany, they recorded their debut album, Moving On, collaborating with drummer and producer Raphael Rasmus. In 2015, they released the follow-up album, Here We Are. Following a hiatus spent busking on the streets of southern Germany, they joyfully returned with Even The Stars Die and Eleven Days, marking their first musical offerings in four years.
Their latest album, Sensationalize, graced listeners in the summer of 2023 and has been complemented by electrifying performances at iconic venues such as the Cavern Club in Liverpool, alongside supporting British chart-topper MIKA on his international Apocalypse Calypso Tour.
Meet the Visionary Director Veronika Bolotina
At the helm of this captivating narrative is Veronika, a Belarus-born, German writer and director whose artistic journey began at 18 when she moved to Germany to delve into media, theatre, and film. After earning her undergraduate degree in Mainz, Veronika pursued a Master’s degree in London, during which she was awarded two prestigious scholarships for her academic excellence—one in Germany and another from the DAAD for her postgraduate studies.
Her creative work flourishes at the intersection of varied artistic forms and disciplines, cultivating a space ripe for experimentation, playfulness, and striking visual storytelling.
