“Katadiki” encapsulates that haunting moment of waking from a dream, only to confront the unsettling realisation that one is trapped in a situation not of one’s own making. It’s a visceral reflection on the sacrifices required to attain awakening, interwoven with themes of religious fear and the journey of growing up. The music video expands and enriches this narrative, immersing viewers in a ritualistic, dreamlike world crafted through a collaborative vision involving VASSIŁINA, Vinyl Face, and Iokasti Mantzog. Together, they delve into the potent themes of embodiment, protection, and collective awakening.
Originally conceived as an EP featuring collaborations with Greek indie and alt-pop artists, i.par.ksia.ko has blossomed into a full-length exploration that marks VASSIŁINA’s first entirely Greek-language project. This album dives into the existential dilemmas of entering one’s 30s, capturing the tension of living between two vibrant cities, London and Athens, and grappling with the ongoing uncertainty of belonging. Each city, in its own way, embodies a parallel life, reflecting the bittersweet nature of relocation and identity that defines VASSIŁINA’s journey.
Musically, VASSIŁINA conjures a rich tapestry that balances pop aesthetics with darker electronic influences. The soundscape she crafts is a live amalgamation of punk melancholy, electric pop, and avant-garde vibes. Drawing from dramatic polyphonic vocals, heavy vocal delays, and eerie field recordings, she seamlessly traverses the chaotic fringes of the dance music scene.
Having released her debut album Fragments in 2021 through Inner Ear Records, VASSIŁINA has already made her mark in diverse venues and festivals across Greece, the UK, and Germany, including notable shows at The Shacklewell Arms in London and the Athens Music Week. She has shared the stage with esteemed artists such as Miss Kitin, Kadebostany, Curses, and Pan Pan.
Mark your calendars for March 13th, as her album i.par.ksia.ko is set to drop, promising listeners a journey of introspection, musical innovation, and the shared experience of awakening. For now, dive into the dreamlike visuals of “Katadiki”, a teaser of the artistry to come.
