VW by Monika Bagalova and Kat Hanzen

A KALTBLUT exclusive fashion editorial called VW by the photographer Monika Bagalova and the stylist & make up artist Kat Hanzen both based in Bratislava, Slovakia. “We were inspired by the honesty & roughness of the city outskirts and its fascinating lifestyle. VW represents the hopeful horizons and the suburban kingdom seen as a little hidden pearl in our imagination. We have decided to portray the working class glam and connect these different worlds through symbiosis of style and place. Besides of being a fashion photographer for the past decade, I am an Ethnologist focused on visual anthropology and I am currently doing my PhD degree in Religion Studies. The rooted message in my photographs is a balance of ethereal femininity and strong empowerment. I always reach out to diversity, which has become a very crucial part of my work. My inspiration are different cultures, ethnicities and humanity in general. I aim to avoid the superficial and look for the deeper visual meanings. I like working with talented models such as Lucia Zatkova from Elite Models, who greatly fit my imagination of a fresh modern beauty with a strong view and expression.”
