Get ready to immerse yourself in the latest sonic journey from the Berlin-based label TILT, as Lag and X-Coast once again join forces for their much-anticipated EP release, “XL Traxx.” This vinyl record, the second in their collaborative series, draws upon the raw energy and distinctiveness of early 2000s techno, expertly reimagined for today’s dynamic dancefloors.
The EP kicks off with the electrifying track “Da Chord,” a powerful anthem that is sure to captivate listeners and make a bold statement about the duo’s unyielding artistic vision. Here, a call-and-response motif from the synths dances playfully alongside relentless, pounding drums, forming a striking contrast that demands attention and ignites movement.
Next up is “Da High,” a luscious, disco-infused rollercoaster that elevates the energy effortlessly. Layered with smooth vocals and airy pads, this track rests on a vibrant, percussive drum foundation, creating an irresistible invitation to the dancefloor.
On the flip side, prepare for a thrilling ride with two unabashed bass heavyweights, “Da Riser” and “Da Bass.” “Da Riser” delicately weaves a tapestry of tension and release, anchored by a gritty low synth motif that teases and torments. Meanwhile, “Da Bass” pays homage to the defining energy of late ’90s drum & bass, yet adopts a modern twist with its pulsating 4/4 kick, funky chords, and congas that resonate deep within.

This release is accompanied by striking artwork that showcases an eclectic collage of rave flyers and label stickers, telling a story that goes beyond the music itself. Hidden within the design is a figure of legendary importance, Šanjika, better known as DJ Slowhands. His vinyl shop in Novi Sad, though tucked away underground, acted as an essential hub for the Serbian electronic music scene. Before the dawn of the internet, Šanjika would journey to Budapest every Thursday to source the freshest tracks, returning just in time to welcome a diverse crowd into his store every Friday, a melting pot of sounds, energies, and cultural intersections.
Though the shop is now a relic of the past, the spirit of Šanjika thrives on in his DJ persona, always on the prowl for the next sound to get you moving. “XL Traxx” serves as a heartfelt ode to his impact on the Serbian scene, threading together the varied moods and influences that he so passionately championed.
