“Through 78,17 MB I seek to pay tribute to the figure of my grandmother within the family context, her customs, her way of speaking… where the title refers to her age at death and the finite capacity of memory to selectively remember specific moments.
The image of her that has been formulated in my head is the one that guides the narrative of the project. To do so, I submerge myself in the study of mourning, where loss and tradition condition the way she has lived her daily life for the last 4 years; and memory, with its sweetened realities and moments of emptiness in the memories.
Following a chronological but discontinuous trajectory, family albums help to recover such voids and feed the idealized moments that are repeated consecutively, framing traditions that, with the advance of the pages in the albums, give way to more relaxed and casual photographs.
Therefore, time becomes the main thread of the collection, being also the one that allows to interpose the emotional distance necessary to treat this story.
The origin of the fabrics, from family inheritance or remains of recovered stock, give predominance to factors such as exposure to light and humidity or storage wrinkles. Therefore, scarcity is a factor that limits the manufacture of garments and determines their final appearance, resorting to techniques such as patchwork, in those of greater consumption.
The result is a great variety, but from a point of homogeneity, which naturally cohesively links the overall result of the collection, through color and silhouette, starting from light and luminous styles, to add more load to the sets that are dyed black. Thus, the accumulation becomes visible in the looks of the collection, whose succession of garments form structured, geometric and visually heavy silhouettes.
78,17 MB has served me not only at a professional level, exploring my capabilities as a designer in terms of the creative process of research, fabric design and different techniques such as laser and silkscreen printing; but also at a personal development level, with the culmination of having been able to participate and win the award for Best Design and Creativity in the Debut 2021 fashion show in Galicia (Spain), which encourages me to look for the next step.”
